Honda to revamp 'City' sedan in a bid to revive its fortunes

NEW DELHI: Honda plans to revamp its City sedan within days of slashing its flagship car's price by up to 66,000 to revive it sagging fortunes in world's fastest growing auto market. The refreshed car is likely to have top-notch optional features such as sunroof, new multimedia and infotainment additions like Bluetooth and iPod connectivity and a new colour combination, an industry executive said.

MUMBAI: Insurance premium on diesel vehicles may rise by 30% as insurers plan to compensate themselves for higher liabilities in the segment, dealing yet another blow to auto sales that have been slowing due to high interest rates. General insurance companies, facing steep losses in motor policy claims, also plan to factor in regional behaviour on claims to finalise premium, said two people familiar with the development. This will translate into customers in north India paying higher premium for damages and customers in the south paying more for third-party insurance.
Toyota Liva to take on Swift, Polo, Micra in hatchback segment

NEW DELHI: Toyota may trigger a price war in the hatchback segment when it launches its first small car in India on June 27. The all new Toyota Liva is expected to start at just over Rs 4 lakh and the top-end version, complete with multiple airbags and anti-lock braking system, will be priced around Rs 5.5-6 lakh, said a company executive.

NEW DELHI: Tata Motors on Thursday said it has launched new diesel and petrol variants of its hatchback Indica, priced between Rs 2.95 lakh and Rs 3.95 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company claimed that the diesel vehicle gives a mileage of 25 km per litre as per Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) and is the most fuel efficient car in India.

NEW DELHI: Swedish car-maker Volvo Car Corp today said its expects India to become its third largest market in Asia after China and Japan by 2016, as it gradually builds up its presence. "The way the Indian luxury car market is growing, we expect it to become the second largest in Asia after China by 2020. We have every interest to take part in this growth," Volvo Car Malaysia (President Asia Region) Goran Larsson told PTI.

The car will be powered by a Super Turbo DDiS engine displacing 1.3 litres and churning out 90PS and a torque of 200Nm @ 1750 rpm. The car will be offered in three variants – LDI Vdi, and ZDi with leather upholstery.

Priced between Rs.6-8 lakh, the jeep-look-alike Thar is specially designed for off-road driving. The company also plans to launch a cheaper variant of the Thar at a price of Rs.4.47 lakh for the rural market.
